Moon & Rabbits (brown)

A dark brown print on tan paper, depicting a rabbit peering out of the moon in the top right, looking down at a second rabbit standing on its hind legs on grassy ground at the bottom left. The sky contains asian-art-inspired clouds, and the grass is depicted using wave-like stripes of short vertical lines.

There is a Japanese folktale that tells of an industrious rabbit living on the moon and pounding rice cake. This is my take on that story: the rabbit in the moon looks towards earth to see how its brethren are fairing.

This print is one of two versions printed from the same block. See the accompanying blue-on-white print here.

This piece of artwork is a hand-printed and limited-edition linocut block print. There may be some variation between prints.
