It’s a fish! It’s a kite! It’s a koinobori!

The koinobori (鯉のぼり) is a carp-shaped windsock, flown every year in celebration of Japan’s Children’s Day on May 5.

Multiple limited editions were printed using this pair of blocks; they differ in both color and type of paper. Click on an option above to learn about each print edition.

These works are original linocut block prints. Each work is handprinted using two carved linoleum blocks, the first to give the koinobori color and the second (inked in a dark color) to give the fish outline and details. All papers are hand-torn to size and the four paper edges showcase the whispy paper fibers. Because each print is a handprinted original, there will be slight variations between prints.

Each purchase is for a single unframed print.
